The iconic “Home of the Chesty Lions” sign has found a new home at Lawrence High School. On Monday morning, facilities and maintenance worker Tom Lauts helped secure the 4-by-12 foot redwood sign in place. For five months, the Lawrence school district’s facilities and maintenance crew cleaned, oiled and reframed the once-faded sign, which was donated by the Lawrence High Class of 1982 nearly 30 years ago. On Monday, the staff reinstalled the sign, moving it from the west entrance of the school’s parking lot along 19th Street to the south side of LHS football field, where it will perform dual roles of welcoming visitors and providing a screen for mechanical transformers.
