Both the LHS boys and girls gymnastics teams prepare for sub-state regional competitions. The boys squad first take top team and several individual honors in an eight-team field at the Olathe North Invitational meet. Then the Lion captured the championship at its regional sub-state meet at home, chalking up its highest score of the season.
The girls gymnastics team concluded it season by also recording its highest team score of the season, but the team finished last in its seven-team Class 6A girls gymnastics sub-state meet held in Olathe.
The LHS volleyball team closed out its season on the road in Wichita at the Class 6A state meet where the team was seeking a seventh consecutive state crown. Battling and winning up to the championship match, the lady Lions lost to the Shawnee Mission East squad in the finals for the state crown.
Relying mostly on a strong defensive efforts in its previous two regional wins, the football team wrapped up its regular schedule with a 21-7 win over Topeka High at Haskell Stadium on Friday night. The victory not only gave the Lions a district championship and state playoff berth, but pushed the squad’s overall record to 9-0 – the first time a Lawrence High team achieved that mark since 1966.
