It’s Homecoming week at Lawrence High School.

A Monday afternoon pep assembly kicked off the week, where the six finalists for Homecoming Queen were introduced. The “Rally Around the Lion” pep gathering took place on Wednesday evening. On Thursday students decorated the school’s hallways. The LHS Music Department presented its annual Pops Concert in the LHS gymnasium, where the orchestra, jazz band, and chorale all performed Thursday evening.

Friday’s homecoming festivities included the afternoon parade down Massachusetts Street from South Park to Lawrence High and the Lions football team against the Leavenworth Pioneers at Haskell Friday evening. During half time of the football game, the Homecoming Queen was crowned. After the football game, the Homecoming dance was held in the LHS cafeteria. For many, the week’s activities continued with taking the ACT exam first thing Saturday morning, also in the LHS cafeteria.

The undefeated and topped ranked Lions football team improved to 6-0 in claiming the undisputed Sunflower League championship with a 34-12 victory over the Pioneers Friday night.

The Lions volleyball team boosted its record to 22-3 with additional wins this week.

Both the girls tennis and golf teams fared well in their Sunflower League meets, both finishing third in the league championships.

The boys gymnastics team took second place at the annual home LaBombarb Invitational Saturday afternoon.
