As the 1981-82 school year begins, it is reported that the overall enrollment is about 50 people short of meeting the district’s enrollment forecast number.

The traditional Friday night football Jamboree scrimmage took place this week, with mixed results by the varsity football squad. The evening schedule, which includes appearances from the city’s junior high teams plus the LHS cross country team and marching band, took place at Haskell Stadium.

It was reported that American College Testing (ACT) scores went up for the LHS college-bound seniors, according to test results taken the prior school year.

The Kansas City Royals, playing in a strike-shorten baseball season, fired Jim Frey as manager and former New York Yankees manger Dick Howser was named as his replacement.
